Ozone Action Days
Monday, September 9 and Tuesday, September 10, 2002

Pollutant: OZONE

Monday’s forecast: 129

Tuesday’s forecast: 122

Air Quality: UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS.  Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Ozone levels generally peak during late afternoon and early evening hours. The Air Pollution Control District and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have issued this HEALTH WARNING for Monday and Tuesday.  You can take these actions to improve local air quality on an Ozone Action Day or any day:

Take these actions for better air quality:

Don’t top off fuel tanks.  Re-fuel your vehicle when it’s cool, in the evening.  Avoid using gasoline-powered lawn equipment on Ozone Action Days.  Mowing your yard for an hour creates the same amount of pollution as driving 200 miles in a newer model car!
