1st Annual
"Do Your Share For Cleaner Air"
Calendar Contest
Sponsored by:
Kentuckiana Ozone Prevention
Coalition
In Kentuckiana, ozone season runs from March 1st
through October 31st each year. During these months, area pollution
combines with warmer temperatures and sunlight to create ground-level ozone. The
majority of the pollution produced in our area comes from vehicles and
industries. Other significant sources include gasoline-powered lawn equipment
such as mowers, weed-eaters, leaf-blowers, etc.
The Kentuckiana Ozone Prevention Coalition (KOPC) is a group
of more than 211 local companies and organizations, dedicated to reducing ozone.
KOPC member companies adjust their operations to minimize activities that create
ozone, including staggered work schedules and flex-time. The KOPC members also
help promote ozone reduction practices at their workplaces.
To increase the community’s awareness of the ozone season
and to encourage the use of voluntary strategies, the KOPC is sponsoring a
"Do Your Share For Cleaner Air" calendar contest. By involving
children in this contest, they will learn the importance of clean air.
Remember: Each person can make a difference and with your
participation, we can help educate and involve the community in "Doing his
or her share for cleaner air!"
